Overarching climate goals and political frameworks are based on findings from climate research. The City of Zeitz will also increasingly be affected by the consequences of climate change, as drought, heavy rainfall events, storms, and flooding increasingly endanger municipal infrastructure or affect the health of the population. This is where climate protection comes in, because all measures adopted under this term must aim to protect the climate. Climate protection refers to measures that stop or at least drastically slow down the climate crisis. The most important measure against climate change is the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. We must phase out fossil fuels and switch to renewable energy sources. We must save energy and use energy more efficiently. Climate protection goes hand in hand with the reduction of greenhouse gases, which often means reducing CO2 produced when burning hydrocarbons. Therefore, we must, for example, phase out the extraction and use of fossil fuels and switch to renewable energies. In addition, strategies must be implemented to achieve neutrality of climate-impacting gases. This approach can be summarized as reducing energy demand, increasing efficiency, and switching the remaining energy consumption to renewable energies. To develop concrete measures and courses of action to achieve the ambitious climate protection goals, the City of Zeitz is creating an “Integrated Climate Protection Concept” and wants to give all interested parties the opportunity to participate.
