About DIE BÜRGERSTIMMEIn the Burgenland district, starting in November 2021, more than 3,000 people peacefully walked through seven cities and municipalities every Monday to express their protest. However, their concerns have not yet been adequately represented in public discourse. Initiated by the organizers of the walks, participants of the Monday walks in the Burgenland district were able to answer the question "Why are you taking to the streets?" using a form by ticking checkboxes and/or writing their own responses. Survey form (Download as PDF) Additionally, on Saturday, January 22, 2022, during the "Workshop Citizen's Voice" assembly on the marketplace in Naumburg, people's concerns, demands, and wishes were expressed through an open microphone. The public interest in the event was overwhelming. Over 1,000 submissions and another 100 letters were handed in. These were evaluated and categorized by the organizing group. The urgent need for people to express their worries and fears, their demands, and their protest was strongly felt. They want to be heard and taken seriously and were glad that their voices were no longer ignored or distorted. They demand clarity, logic, comprehensibility, and guidance (What are the criteria for the end of the pandemic?). They want trust, self-determination, solidarity instead of division, and peace. Survey evaluation (Download as PDF) The citizens' committee "Die Bürgerstimme" was formed, which developed a catalog of demands. On Saturday, January 29, 2022, the evaluation of the survey and verbal contributions, the catalog of demands, the demands of entrepreneurs, as well as those of healthcare workers, were presented on the marketplace in Naumburg under the motto "Citizen's Voice – This is what we demand from local politics." Local politicians, the district administrator, mayors of the cities and municipalities where Monday walks take place, members of the Bundestag from the Burgenland district, as well as individual members of the state and district parliaments, were invited. Catalog of demands (Download as PDF) The interest from local politicians was less overwhelming; only Ms. MdK Kerstin Worms and MdB Martin Reichardt attended. They were handed the catalog of demands and each gave a brief speech to the participants. They sharply criticized the pressure exerted on children: on one hand, the conveyed guilt about spreading infections, and on the other, the downplaying of vaccination risks. They advocated for a free vaccination choice, encouraged participants to engage in local politics, and urged them to persist in their protest. There is disappointment that most local politicians show little interest in forming their own opinion beyond media reporting regarding the motivation behind the protests and in engaging with the citizens. Reader's letter on the topic With the verbal contributions, thoughts, wishes, concerns, and demands of the Monday walkers, a representative picture of people's motivations emerged. The submitted texts and statements were now presented in a traveling exhibition. This exhibition toured almost all cities where Monday walks took place on Sundays. With a pavilion, a seating area, coffee, and cake, it provided an opportunity to view the statements and opinions, which were creatively displayed on construction fences with photos, engage with them, and converse with others. The traveling exhibition took place on: March 13, 2022, in Teuchern, March 20, 2022, in Zeitz, March 27, 2022, in Naumburg, April 3, 2022, in Weißenfels, and on April 10, 2022, in Hohenmölsen. The traveling exhibition was announced as an event notice in the Naumburger Tageblatt. The district administrator and the mayor of Naumburg were invited to the exhibition in Naumburg but did not attend. A selection of the submissions by Monday walkers answering the question "Why are you taking to the streets?" was read out at https://www.youtube.com/@buergerstimme or https://t.me/buergerstimme_blk. The problems arising from crisis management policies are clearly felt here in the Burgenland district and must be addressed. Creative solutions involving many opinions and ideas are needed. The organizers of the Monday walks and the members of the Citizen's Voice consider joint engagement essential: approaching one another, understanding each other, building bridges, and seeking solutions with the ideas of all people. Amid the protests of farmers, entrepreneurs, and the still ongoing lack of fair and balanced reporting in mainstream media, this website was launched at the end of February 2024. It aims to serve as a counterpoint. All citizens are invited to report on many issues that find no place in traditional media or are not accurately represented.
