STOP Land Consumption in BLK at B91/A9 – FOR Meaningful Structural Change – Petition Against the IKIG (Intermunicipal Industrial Area)Irresponsible and expensive! 450 hectares of fertile farmland are to be sealed! Call to sign an online petition. In Burgenlandkreis (BLK), a 450-hectare sealing of highly fertile farmland threatens to take place as part of the structural change plan. This decision is set to be made despite the availability of numerous already developed industrial and commercial brownfields as well as damaged soils. These lands could be used to settle future-oriented businesses and create attractive jobs without sacrificing valuable agricultural land. The sealing would have severe impacts on the environment and the region. It would cause problems with drainage and flood protection, impair groundwater regeneration, and negatively affect the local climate. Additionally, regional food production and supply would suffer, and the attractiveness of the region as a place to live for families would decline. The planned 250 million euros from structural change funds could be invested far more sensibly to tackle the region’s challenges instead of destroying valuable soil. Soil is a precious resource that, if well cared for, can feed many generations.
