Letter to the Editor: Micha Against the Three Critics

For some time now, I have been following your articles – and, almost even more fascinating, the reader comments on Facebook beneath them.

What unfolds there sometimes resembles a heated debate between Peter and Justus about whether to follow the suspect or rather call the police.

Only: unlike the Three ???, there often seems to be a complete lack of willingness to talk here. Instead of gathering clues together, prejudices are thrown around.

It feels as if both sides have dug in their heels into their viewpoints – like in "The Curse of the Ruby," when Bob almost tore his hair out because no one wanted to listen to his well-researched clues.

Yet we know from countless adventures of the three detectives that you can't get far without cooperation. Even Justus – who rarely struggles for an answer – had to learn in "The Super-Parrot" that you can't always be right if you don’t also listen sometimes.

Therefore, I advocate for a constructive, perhaps even moderated exchange. One in which everyone can say what moves them – without the verbal rubber hammer being swung immediately.

Maybe it takes someone with Bob’s memory, Peter’s gut feeling, and Justus’s cool mind to pick up the threads of conversation again.

Because as Justus once said – quite surely with his finger raised:
“Before you judge, you should try to understand.”

I would wish for us to return to this mode: less confrontation, more detective work on what we have in common.

Otherwise, in the end, not much will remain but an empty junkyard full of unanswered comments.
