Rebels for Peace and Justice in the Burgenland DistrictUnder the slogans "Protest for Peace and Justice" and "Free and Undaunted," the initiatives “Rebellion Zeitz” and “Aufbruch Zeitz” are calling for a demonstration on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at the Altmarkt in Zeitz.  The goal is to send a clear message against militarization, warmongering, and the current security policy orientation of the federal and EU governments. In the public debate, increasingly critical questions are being raised: How real is the much-cited threat from Russia? And what exactly would Russia — a vast country with immense natural resources — gain by attacking Europe or Germany? What is there in Germany to take that would justify such an attack? Cynical voices reply: “Rainbow flags and unicorns.” Behind this irony lies a serious doubt about the widespread narrative that Russia is planning military expansion to the West. Balance of Power: NATO vs. Russian FederationA glance at the numbers underscores these doubts:» Population of NATO countries: approx. 973 million people » Population of the Russian Federation: approx. 144 million people The military budget also shows a massive imbalance: » Military spending by NATO countries (2024): around 1,300 billion USD » Military spending by Russia (2024): approx. 109 billion USD This comparison alone leads many to conclude that a Russian attack on the entire NATO alliance seems militarily unrealistic. Backdoor War Involvement?It has now become known that the U.S. and Germany are apparently far more deeply involved in the war in Ukraine than previously publicly acknowledged. Reports suggest that U.S. generals, together with Ukrainian officers, planned specific drone attacks from the Lucius D. Clay barracks in Wiesbaden, thus influencing the course of the front.If these reports are accurate — and multiple sources have already confirmed them — the question arises: Who is the real aggressor here? And if Russia is indeed being provoked to this extent, why has there been no military retaliation so far? Militarization and the Media – Where Is the Debate Headed?At the same time, many “painstream media” are increasingly reporting positively on rearmament, the German armed forces, and the planned hundreds of billions of euros in military spending. Critical perspectives on these developments are rare — as are discussions about diplomatic solutions, disarmament, or neutral mediation attempts.Taking to the Streets for PeaceThe demonstration on April 7 is thus intended as an expression of the peace movement — to make alternatives to the current policy of confrontation visible and to oppose the normalization of war preparations and enemy images.The normalization of war preparations often happens gradually and usually begins with an intensified portrayal of external threats. Political and media discourse increasingly focuses on security and defense, while military build-up is portrayed as necessary and without alternatives. At the same time, enemy images are deliberately constructed — for example, by repeatedly portraying a certain country or group as aggressive, unpredictable, or morally inferior. Propaganda uses simple narratives, strong emotions, and stereotypical labels to simplify complex geopolitical contexts and make its own actions appear justified. Critical voices are often discredited or marginalized, creating a climate in which war preparations are seen as “logical” or even “patriotic.” Is it really about defense? Or once again about interests, power, and control — and another massive redistribution from citizens and taxpayers into the pockets of corporations and lobbyists? As always, the citizens will foot the bill — through further rising living costs and, if escalation does occur, with their health and their lives.
