and wait until their turn at last.

Most have no answer ready,
don’t know what it’s about.
They’ve long succumbed to regulations,
each one just stands where they are placed.

by idiots up above.

and they began to amputate us.
Yes, all stand well-behaved in line,

The rest, defying all reason,
put both hands on the block with glee.
Together in line they wait,
then comes football or the garden gate.
A nation of poets and thinkers
obediently goes to its own executioners,
has stopped acting for itself,
cheering every bit of nonsense,
swaying or clapping hands,
and mindlessly repeating every sham,
following orders without thought,
giving their whole lives away.
They obey like in the military –

Comfort and arrogance,
