Small Group, Important Message: Palestinian Woman at Peace Demonstration in Weißenfels on July 15, 2024

The Failure of NATO as a "Peace Alliance" and the True Costs of Global Conflicts, Moving Words from a Young Palestinian Woman Reporting on the Stateless Existence and Often Forgotten Suffering of Her People, a Call to Stand Up for Peace and Justice.

English Translation

On Monday, July 15, 2024, another peace demonstration took place on the Weißenfels market square. About 50 people gathered to show their commitment to peace. Given the Federal Republic of Germany's war preparations as NATO's most active supporter in Europe for a potential third campaign against Russia, the threat to the existence of the German people is seriously dangerous. Globally, significant changes are occurring that could reduce and end the West's economic and military dominance, particularly that of the USA. Soon, the West's ability to continue global war aggressions may cease, and I am convinced this will happen within this century.

Through the BRICS nations, an international community has formed that no longer submits to the centuries-long colonization of other countries and peoples. This affects not only Africa and South America but also Asia. An international force is emerging that will hopefully be able to end the war in Ukraine. Fascism must not take hold there or in any other European country. It must be possible to mutually respect the fundamental security interests of individual countries. Without mutual respect, there is no peace, and it is time to end the NATO-planned militarization of Ukraine for warfare against Russia since the 1990s, including the publicly known statements by Victoria Nuland.

The current government of the Federal Republic, with its aggressive war policy against Russia, does not represent the interests of the German people but endangers their existence.

Finally, take to the streets for peace!

When you’re sitting at home again, thinking things can’t get any worse, you turn on the TV and see the world is completely consumed by lies, division, hate, and suffering, with humanity nowhere in sight. Elites who want to kill us, politicians who only oppress us, media that blatantly lie to us, and we’re the ones labeled as the right-wingers. Then go within, look around, listen to your heart, and don’t be foolish. Stand up and resist; life won’t last forever. Go out and stand for your freedom.

And then you wonder, what’s the point of stationing even more long-range missiles in Germany? The escalation level keeps rising, and when you consider that it’s July now and the first F-16 fighter jets are supposed to be delivered, it’s already chilling. Allegedly for the defense of the country, which is important and no one denies, but who’s sitting there controlling it? I just remind those of us who are older, who still remember the Cuban Missile Crisis, where a Russian officer prevented a catastrophe back then. Otherwise, we would have had a nuclear war in 1969. I also recall the NATO Double Decision of 1979.

I’m always glad that our numbers are growing, and if you look online and review the things I’ve mentioned, like the NATO Double Decision, then our market square would still be far too small. Back then in North Rhine-Westphalia, over 300,000 people protested and demonstrated against it, and that’s when the first peace movement emerged. The last thing we talked about last week was, unfortunately, the shelling of the children’s hospital.

If you happened to see the interview with Sahra Wagenknecht and Mr. Green B, it was similar to how I felt when I looked online early in the morning to find out what was true and what was accurate. I had the MDR website, and MDR wrote that a children’s hospital in Ukraine was hit yesterday; it was a Ukrainian rocket whose debris fell on the hospital. An hour later, I check MDR again, and a Russian rocket’s debris hit the children’s hospital. My God, you really wonder what is truth and what is a lie, and somehow no one dares to say it publicly.

The opinion on this is clear: This can’t go on; there must be negotiations that finally lead to a goal, at least achieving a ceasefire that is long overdue. Because we know the suffering is growing, whether in Russia or Ukraine. A former NATO general recently said in an interview that Zelensky only has 17% approval in Ukraine. You don’t hear that in the press; it’s not publicized. The women, the wives, and mothers want their men back from the front, just like in Russia. And those of us who are a bit older, who experienced the Second World War, know the suffering they went through back then.

Our CDU chairman, Mr. Friedrich Merz, cost us another small fortune of €100,000 for a flight in a fighter jet. Our Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, costs €130,000 a year for her makeup artist, believe it or not. Have you ever asked your beauty consultant who earns that much? €130,000, let that sink in. We have 2.1 billion left for child basic income, where over 20 billion were planned. I’ll stop here and gladly pass the microphone to those who also want to share their opinions.

Winston Churchill once said, former Foreign Secretary and Prime Minister of England, insulting each other is better than shooting each other. Thank you, I must say, I’m glad so many made it here to show their faces. That’s actually the important thing. Of course, there are too few, compared to those who really don’t want war. If you ask anyone around, do they want war, no one does. But so far, people aren’t really standing up. The NATO Double Decision, which was about Pershing and SS-22 missiles, brought 100,000 people to the streets. That was also the starting point for the Greens. Think about it, back then the Greens were still a peace and anti-nuclear party. Now, years later, the Greens are the biggest warmongers we have. War policy is also made through economic policy. The Economic Minister has declared himself the War Economy Minister.

This is simply unbearable. So, then we have NATO. NATO is our peace alliance, someone close to us once told me. They said NATO has secured peace for all these years, celebrating 75 years of NATO. That wasn’t much, but NATO is not a peace alliance; NATO is a war alliance. Since its inception, NATO has been expanding eastward. Why do you think? The enemy is in the East.

That was already said during the Nazi dictatorship, and people were incited against the Russians and Bolsheviks. Now take what we encounter every day in newspapers and on TV: It’s exactly the same, just in different words. They tell us the enemy is in the East, and Putin is the enemy. That’s another level, making a single man the enemy and not knowing that this man has 70-75% approval at home.

Look at the pathetic figures on the other side. They’ve insulted each other, done all sorts of things, held up targets for each other. Now Biden has retracted the tweet in which he said Trump belongs in the center of the target, the so-called bullseye. Those who play know where that is, right in the middle. He retracted that tweet after a cowardly attack on a politician. But what does that tell us? How democratic is this America?

And that’s exactly the “friend” everything here is aligned with. This entire government is transatlantically oriented, meaning they receive all their orders from the West. Then it’s military with NATO, then economically with everything else. You know exactly what happened: They blew up the pipeline and said, fine, we’ll supply our fracking gas. Months earlier, there were protests here against fracking gas, and now we’re getting that junk shipped across the ocean in huge containers and tankers that also pollute the environment.

That interests many, but it doesn’t really get anyone riled up. That’s actually what I’m standing here for: We must ensure this perspective isn’t just accepted but that we do something about it. But I’ll give you a few more arguments. I said NATO is a war alliance. Illegal wars involving NATO countries from 1945 to today: Iran 1953, Guatemala 1954, Egypt 1956, Cuba and Vietnam in the 60s, Iraq 1990/91 and 2003, further so-called regime changes. You know the term: Changing a regime isn’t bad, but doing it with weapons, pumping money into it.

Ms. Nuland said it cost about 5 billion. We can’t just stop now. That’s not how it works. Yes, we’ve invested money in this. She kept handing out her cookies and supported the fascists, real fascists, and this has nothing to do with right or left; they’re simply fascist criminals in power there. They’re doing it too: Right after the Maidan happened, they started attacking their own southern regions, mostly inhabited by Russians. An eight-year war was waged there with 10,000 deaths.

Now you can say, were they Russians or Ukrainians? It was a civil war, affecting Ukrainians first, but the Ukrainians were of Russian descent, and they want to get rid of them. They want to ban their culture, or they do ban their culture, ban their faith, they’ve created their own church, ban their way of life. That was the state Putin, I’ll say it simply, marched in without any reason.

Who are they trying to fool with the fairy tale that there was no reason? That was more than enough reason. NATO kept creeping closer to Russia, and since that didn’t work in this area, they waged real war. Putin did the only thing the Americans do all the time: If there are ten Americans in an embassy, they send in the task force to get them out. What did he do here? He protected his Russian compatriots against these Ukrainian Nazis. And since then, we’ve had this conflict.

Now the conflict is, of course, far too slow, and the Russians are far too weak to attack people. They’ve never understood what’s actually happening there. I assume they’ve understood, but they don’t want to tell us. This is a war of attrition, and it ends where the West suddenly can’t produce enough ammunition anymore. Then come the Abrams tanks, supposed to turn the tide of the war. Have you heard anything about a turning point? The Abrams are there, and they’re being shot down in droves because they’re simply not capable of operating or maneuvering in that terrain. Large tank battles aren’t possible there, so tanks have to fight tanks, and that doesn’t do the Abrams any good. But that’s just a side note.

If you want something like that, you have to look deeper into the whole matter. It’s not just possible to be blind in both eyes. NATO countries have repeatedly bombed other countries and toppled governments since 1945. The UN doesn’t care. So, NATO or the USA toppled the government in Iran in 1953 – that was illegal. In 1954, they toppled the government in Guatemala by arming and sending mercenaries, as they do today in Syria, to do the dirty work. That was illegal. In 1973, they toppled the government in Chile. Those socialized in the GDR know what we were told about Allende back then because he tried to pursue a course not aligned with the USA. They armed, trained, and sent mercenaries, staged a coup – that was illegal. In 1986, the USA bombed Libya without a mandate – that was illegal. They murdered Gaddafi – that was illegal. That’s the USA, that’s NATO, but no one here really explains it. That’s actually a shame because then you could see what’s behind this whole theater, including economically.

On February 20, 2014, the USA toppled the government in Ukraine to install a new president who would lead Ukraine into NATO. The Russians had had enough because they didn’t want to lose their military base on the Black Sea and secured Crimea after the coup in Kyiv with soldiers and a referendum. That’s the state of affairs, and the war continues.

Interestingly, there’s now a NATO decision, or rather, it’s not a NATO decision but an agreement between the Federal Republic of Germany and the USA. That means all of you made this decision because you’re responsible for the government up there. Here’s the text of the explosive and highly dangerous agreement between the US government and the German government, not NATO: Two governments decide this. After discussions before the NATO summit, the governments of the United States and Germany issued the following joint statement: The United States will begin the phased deployment of long-range fire capabilities of its Multi-Domain Task Force in Germany in 2026, as part of planning for the permanent stationing of these capabilities in the future. When fully developed, these conventional long-range fire units will include SM-6, Tomahawk, and hypersonic weapons in development, which have a significantly greater range than current land-based fire systems in Europe. The exercise of these advanced capabilities will demonstrate the United States’ readiness for NATO and its contribution to integrated deterrence in Europe.

Word for word: Where does Germany stand? Germany becomes the center of the target because the Russians have announced: If you do this, we will respond. That means these gangsters across the pond are preparing Central Europe as a theater of war and letting it be completely destroyed. If those weapons are there, weapons from the other side will come too. Then you can all pack up if we don’t finally resist, if we don’t finally get more people onto the streets than we have here. It’s great that you’re all here, but we need to grow, otherwise we can’t prevent this. Thank you.

Well, I won’t need to introduce myself. Yes, the world’s going crazy, the world is crazy, and so are the people. What do I expect from life? Well, when I was young, I thought: Find a decent job. Fine, I did, I became self-employed. Well, I want to achieve something, treat myself to something nice. It’s not much, but I’m happy with it. I won’t get rich, but I can live. And then I look around and reach a point where everything starts going crazy. The signs were there for a long time, what’s happening here. Then came Corona, then the war: first between Russia and Ukraine, then between Israel and Palestine. Now I’m just waiting, if it continues like this, for when it’s our turn. As my previous speaker said, the politics steering us don’t come solely from here; they really come, I’ll say, from overseas. There sits a demented person no one would put in a company or agency, and he governs an entire population. It’s like if we went to a dementia home and asked a dementia patient to run a big business. None of us would do that. But somehow, everyone’s scared of him, and I don’t even know why. If you show him the finger today, he’ll have forgotten it by tomorrow. Everything’s whispered into his ear, but people listen to such individuals, and if he says, let’s go to war, everyone plays along. How crazy is this world?

Would you allow at home for the least capable person to become the head of the family? Would you allow in a group for the dumbest person to handle the finances? No one would do that. We want people around us we can rely on, whom we can trust. But somehow, that doesn’t happen. And somehow, I hear from all directions that the war must end, but all those people aren’t standing here. Where are they? What are they doing? Are they having their after-work beer, a nice coffee, sitting by the pool? Which, by the way, I’ll do later too. Nice, but I’ll do it afterward. I know what’s important to me, and that’s that we want to live together in peace and nothing else.

And now to the question of what I expect for the future: Quite simply, I expect us to collectively stand strong for a peaceful, communal future and nothing else. What does that mean for me? That people engage together and that a small group grows into a large one, and maybe a city doesn’t just position itself with a flag but – wishful thinking, I’ll say – why doesn’t a city organize a notable peace action? The mayor, I hope he gets this message somehow, but if you stand for peace, please not silently with a flag, but loudly and together with the citizens of this city and surrounding area.

Peace is an issue for me where everyone should get off their butt and take to the streets. It’s something honorable, something good, something human, and it has to do with empathy – compassion for others. And it doesn’t matter to me whether it’s for Russian or Ukrainian victims. Let’s continue to stand up together for peace and justice, take to the streets for openness and honesty. We don’t just have duties; we also have rights. Claim them.

I want to say something about the conflict happening down there. Conflict is, of course, another word; the war happening down there. Hello, we’re both 15, we come from Palestine. But the problem is, no one talks about what’s happening in Palestine and Gaza. Everyone says Israel has the right to bomb Gaza. They say all Palestinians – no matter what happens, it’s not a problem – they all have to die in the end. That’s what the Israelis themselves say, the army. They say, no matter how many children die there, as long as Gaza, all Palestinians will die in the end.

I find it just sad that when the Ukraine war happened, everyone only talked about Ukraine, and now that there’s war in Palestine, no one talks about it, as if nothing’s happening. Already after the first week, they said in Palestine all schools closed because there are simply no children left. If it’s about Hamas, they can go ahead and kill them, but why the children? What have the children done? So, we also want to ask, if this happened in Germany now, say the capital of Germany gets bombed – the Germans would definitely do something, and everyone would talk about it. But when it’s about an Arab country or Palestine, no one talks. They just say it’s none of their business. They say we’re not human. On our ID, it says we have no country. So we’re stateless. Wherever we go, we’re foreigners. That’s really bad. Even when we’re in our country, so to speak, now in Israel, they say: “You’re foreigners, you’re shitty Arabs.” No idea, it’s so shitty. Sorry if I say that, but everyone has the right to freedom, everyone has a country, everyone must have a homeland, except us, because it just says “stateless.” That’s so bad. Whenever I say I’m from Palestine, people immediately say I’m a terrorist. That just makes me sad because I haven’t done anything and can’t help what’s happening in Palestine and Israel. But I think the people in Palestine and also in Israel are innocent. They can’t help it. But I think at least we should talk about it and not be afraid or silence the topic because children are dying there, adults are dying who can’t help it.

Recently, a hospital was bombed too. I wonder, why a hospital? There are sick people there. What are the sick people supposed to do? Thank you very much. And if we stand here for peace without weapons, that applies to Palestine too. Most of us also support a two-state solution. Because people without a state, that’s not okay. We all know that. And what’s happening down there, I’ll say the word, even though so much is talked around it here: What’s happening down there is genocide. And what happened recently, that even formerly protected areas are being attacked with bombardments to take out a single man they’ve targeted, that’s genocide. We stand just as much against this genocide as against what’s happening in Ukraine. You can be sure of that. We are the peace movement, and we’re with you. We haven’t forgotten the topic.

As Hans Glitschmüller rightly said: For decades, there’s been the demand for a two-state solution by the former Swedish envoy who negotiated between Israel and Palestine about 60, 70 years ago. This two-state solution is now welcomed by some states, also at the UN. Unfortunately, as Hans Glitschmüller explained, America and our country doubt this story. And this doubt is shameful. I have to say this honestly: It’s still tied to our past, and that’s the sad thing. You have to say it honestly. That we’re then condemned by those who, as Hans rightly said, commit genocide in Gaza. That’s more than inhumane.

So, I’ll now pass to the last speaker with a voice, as it says on our banners: the little peace dove as a song. Thank you. I didn’t bring my guitar today. I’m from Seitz, and on February 20 last year, after Uwe Steimle on February 13, the anniversary of the Dresden bombing – and that’s not just a few thousand, that’s hundreds of thousands who were murdered there by American and British bombers. Family members of mine were there, thankfully they survived. They came as refugees, four of them among 200-300,000 refugees who came to Dresden at that time. Uwe Steimle had the idea in front of the Frauenkirche on February 13 two years ago – he had the idea with the demonstrators, and those weren’t 45 like we have here today – I counted, but over 4,000 demonstrators for peace back then in Dresden. And with them, he had the idea, distributed the lyrics, and had little paper peace doves, like you might remember from May 1 in the GDR, that kids had on their scooters, distributed there. The city banned it and deployed police forces to collect these peace doves and the lyrics for the little white peace dove. Of course, 100 police officers came in Dresden against 4,000, and they sang the song twice as loud.

My wife and I experienced this two years ago. We followed Steimle’s channel and saw it was filmed live there. My wife had the idea because we’ve been demonstrating against this impossible government policy for years. She said: “Man, for the opening – we then did it every Monday – for the opening, you start the peace demo, the Monday protest demos with the peace dove.” We printed 30 lyrics, brought them, distributed them, and since then, we sing it every Monday at our demos. And I ask, some of you learned it in school, and if we sing it together, I saw two members of the Don Cossack Choir from Russia 11 years ago in front of the Frauenkirche in Dresden selling a few CDs, and they sang songs in Russian there. One with the accordion, I just joined in. While singing, the lyrics came back, and I hope it’s the same for you. It’s not a Russian text; it’s the German text by kindergarten teacher Erika Mertke, who wrote it six years ago, and it’s gone around the world as a messenger of peace.

Little White Peace Dove
Please sing along, just live:
Little white peace dove,
fly over the land,
to all people, big and small,
you are well known.
You shall fly, peace dove,
tell everyone here:
“Never again war,
we want peace,
peace we want.”
Fly over the great waters,
over mountain and valley,
bring peace to all people,
greet them a thousand times.
And we wish for the journey
joy and much luck.
Little white peace dove,
come back soon.
“Create peace without weapons,
create peace without weapons.”
Thank you, well sung!
[Applause] [Music]

What Is Our Life Worth
What is our life worth,
if only the sword rules
and the whole world falls apart
into dead sand?
But that won’t happen,
because we don’t want to perish,
and so we call out
through our German land:
Go home, Yankee, Yankee go home,
split your atom for peace,
say goodbye to Father Rhine,
don’t touch his little daughter.
Lorelei, as long as you sing,
Germany will be.
Go home, Yankee, go home,
split your atom for peace,
say goodbye to Father Rhine,
don’t touch his little daughter.
Lorelei, as long as you sing,
Germany will be.

Split Your Atom for Peace
And we stay here
embrace each other again
and come closer to each other
don’t be afraid
and don’t hold back anymore
raise your voices
we are peaceful and colorful.
Germany, show your face
finally wake up
and fight for your right
let your children be free again
let them breathe, sing, and shout again.
Germany, show your face,
don’t be afraid
[Music]

Hey You Up There
Hey you up there, are you really so corrupt?
Can you still look in the mirror?
The people out there,
they’re really breaking down,
many have to go alone.
Just because you found something
and told us,
that makes us all sick.
Germany, show your face
finally wake up
and fight for your right
let your children be free again
let them breathe, sing, and shout again.
Germany, show your face,
don’t be afraid.
[Music]
