Peace activists defy authorities - unregistered demonstration and protest march in Zeitz on 4 May 2026

Despite stricter requirements and without official registration, courageous citizens once again took to the streets in Zeitz – sending a clear message against restrictions and in favor of peace!

On Monday, 4 May 2026, the 5th Monday demonstration of this year took place at the Altmarkt in our hometown Zeitz. Until 13 April 2026, the Zeitz Monday demonstrations were held following registration with the district office and the granting of increasingly strict conditions.

Meanwhile, at the end of April, we were informed in writing by the district office that it would only allow protest marches on the streets of towns in the Burgenlandkreis if the number of participants exceeds 100.

Since the person who had previously been responsible for registering these Monday demonstrations did not submit a registration for 4 May 2026, the Zeitz peace activists spontaneously decided to hold this Monday demonstration without registration. After the peace rally at the Altmarkt, it was unanimously decided by the roughly 30 participants to hold a protest march through the town.

It was also unanimously decided to now organise further protests on a regular basis. The dates will be coordinated internally among the participants and passed on.

Since neither an official from the Naumburg district office nor a police officer was present at this protest in Zeitz, we took responsibility for securing the protest event ourselves.

This Monday demonstration proceeded peacefully and without disruptions.

On Thursday, 7 May, the "Bridge Lighting" between Grana and Theißen will take place again. Further protests in May and June 2026 in our region will be coordinated and announced through the usual channels.

It is necessary to build a nationwide peace movement in Germany as quickly as possible. Since the Second World War, peace has never been as endangered as it is at present.
