Fantastic: Vacation 2026 is Cancelled – Ukraine Needs $120 Billion

It’s always reassuring when the government takes the burden of decision-making off your shoulders. Decisions like: Where should I go on vacation? The answer for 2026 is refreshingly simple: Nowhere.

Because Ukraine has more pressing needs. $120 billion, to be precise. This was announced without a hint of modesty by newly appointed Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal on his Telegram channel: https://t.me/Denys_Smyhal/10892. And since it's now EU raison d'état to jot down every wish from Kyiv directly onto the budget agenda, "financing models" are already in the works. Sounds harmless – but it’s your wallet.

That the U.S. wants to bow out of the war doesn’t help matters. Washington is turning off the money tap – they’re tired of the “conflict in Eastern Europe.” Understandable. So now Europe – that is, we – get to foot the bill. And when they say “we,” they mean: You. Me. Everyone. Our government knows what’s truly important for the people.

But hey – what’s a vacation compared to a few more armored vehicles? Imagine this: Instead of sweating on a lounge chair in Crete, you’re funding drones, demining equipment, and night vision gear. Instead of family time by the sea: express weapon shipments. Instead of sunset photos: satellite images of destroyed front lines.

Fantastic, isn’t it?

At least you’ll save hours of searching for cheap flights, hotel reviews, and sunburns somewhere down south. Just wait for your tax notice – it’ll tell you exactly how much you’re “allowed to invest” in 2026. All very simple, very solidarity-driven, and completely non-negotiable.

Vacation 2026 is Cancelled! Ukraine is Calling!

And you get to pay. Without complaining, of course. After all, you’re a good European.

Why seek faraway places when the ducks in the city park are so close?

Translation of Denys Shmyhal’s Post

I addressed Ukrainian diplomats during the Conference of Heads of Foreign Missions.

I outlined the strategic goals and priorities for Ukraine’s defense as defined by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy:

📌 More Ukrainian-made weapons – 50% should be procured domestically.

📌 More foreign companies willing to cooperate and operate within Ukraine.

📌 More arms deliveries and non-lethal aid, which can also be provided by neutral countries. A particular focus is on new deliveries of the most effective tools to protect our airspace – especially those capable of intercepting ballistic targets.

📌 Additional funding is needed to further develop Ukraine’s defense industry – especially for the production of FPV drones, long-range drones, and interception systems.

We are ready to share our unique combat experiences, technologies, and innovations with our partners.

We propose to our allies to establish joint ventures, transfer licenses, and build production facilities in partner countries. During the war, this production will serve the needs of Ukraine’s defense forces; afterward, it will also strengthen our partners.

Next year, we will need at least $120 billion for defense. We are working with other countries to raise half of this amount with the support of our allies. We are already conducting concrete negotiations with EU and NATO member states.

As part of the panel, together with Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko and Chief of the General Staff, Major General Andrii Hnatov, we also answered questions from the ambassadors.

I thank the diplomatic corps for their daily work in the service of Ukraine. We must redouble our efforts together to support our soldiers and bring victory closer.
