Interview with Martin Reichardt – Christian Didn’t Like It at All

Die Bürgerstimme and I are under observation. Intelligence services? I don’t know. But there are a few individuals out there who keep a close eye on everything – well, almost everything.

One of these individuals – often quoted – is Christian Pagel. And Christian didn’t like the interview with Martin Reichardt one bit. However, he first had to bring himself to watch the video, as he wanted to know whether his submitted questions were actually asked. It took him a while to find the time.

Christian really didn’t like the interview!

He wrote: "Just as I expected: a bloodless, uncritical promotional event for the AfD. An elderly lady without any journalistic knowledge, no interest in critical journalism, and clearly without any understanding of the submitted questions and topics, constantly nodding, never following up, never questioning, and leaving everything entirely uncommented."

He still hasn’t understood what Die Bürgerstimme – i.e., the citizens – is all about. Christian is someone who constantly demands highly professional journalism – like during those wonderful pandemic years, perhaps. As we all know, the journalists from major media outlets constantly and critically questioned the measures all the way up to mandatory vaccination. Right?

The plan for this interview was that citizens could send in their questions. And they did. These questions were asked. Since they were questions from the public, it’s tricky to follow up on them – one would have to do so in the spirit of the questioners. But what would the questioners have wanted as a follow-up? The questions were phrased thoroughly, allowing for detailed answers. And this isn’t meant to be the last interview of its kind.

Apparently, Christian wanted Martin Reichardt to be torn apart. That’s what he seems to have missed – or demanded.

It’s important to note that Christian is one of those who used to praise it when people and politicians in the district categorically rejected interviews with Die Bürgerstimme. He wrote again today: “You don’t give interviews to disreputable people.”

Let me remind you that I once tried to arrange an interview with Markus Nierth. Back then, when the “firewall against the right” was a topic, he was the one who called for dialogue at a demonstration against the right. Citizens were supposed to approach “the right” and talk to them. But Nierth and the Alliance for Diversity and Democracy rejected such dialogue themselves.

Last year, I also asked District Administrator Götz Ulrich for a video interview. The press office first wanted to see my press credentials – very much in the “tradition” of the Third Reich and the GDR. Even my reference to these two periods in German history and the point that anyone in Germany may work as a journalist – without a press pass, etc. – didn’t help. Despite submitting a copy of my press card, I never heard back from the district administrator. Apparently, their approach is to sit it out.

Christian insisted that Martin Reichardt should not see the questions in advance. He wanted the element of surprise on his side, especially if he chose to quote a “Bernd Höcke” instead of Björn Höcke.

In this context, it’s worth mentioning that in 2022, District Administrator Götz Ulrich came up with the idea of answering citizens’ questions live once a week. All citizens could send in questions, and from those, three questions (yes, that many!) were selected to be answered. Great, isn’t it? Questions they don’t like? Hmm...?!

I’d also like to refer to the public question time in county or city council meetings. There, citizens get the chance to ask exactly one question. They’re allotted three minutes – very democratic. Questions on agenda topics are shut down, because those aren’t allowed. Presumably, to prevent council members from having democratic second thoughts. Surely, the rules of procedure could be changed. But that would require those very members – who clearly don’t want to change it – to agree to it.

And here, in this interview with Martin Reichardt? Was there a limit on questions? No, there wasn’t. Christian himself submitted five questions. He noted that his questions and their answers took up a full 17 minutes. And still, Christian wasn’t happy.

Just to make the comparison: The district administrator and the diversity democrats reject dialogue and such interviews. The Member of Parliament for the Burgenland district and southern Saalekreis comes. How should this be evaluated in the context of democracy, citizen participation, etc.?

The Offer to Christian – and Everyone Else

Being as pain-resistant as I am, I made Christian the offer that, should another conversation in this or another format take place, he could ask the questions himself – and, very importantly, follow up critically. After the interview, the idea was raised to record roundtable talks with representatives from different camps. From my perspective, an excellent idea. Anyone interested is welcome to join.

I also invited Christian to attend the AfD’s citizen dialogue on August 18, 2025, in Mücheln. There he could ask, follow up, and discuss to his heart’s content. I would film it and publish it accordingly. That way, everyone could see what critical journalism looks like from Christian’s perspective – and as practiced by him.

But Christian rejected all of it. He said he would only attend the citizen dialogue in Mücheln if I paid him 1,000 euros. I don’t know whether he has financial difficulties and needs the money that badly.
When I pointed out that he wasn’t asking these questions for me or Die Bürgerstimme, but for himself, he replied: “Knew it – you have no money and are too cowardly to pay me. Again, no guts to invest money in real work.”

Everyone is free to draw their own conclusions.

Those who contributed to the interview with Martin Reichardt – the time, providing the location, preparation, follow-up, technology, video editing, etc. – received exactly ZERO cents. We do this for democracy, for understanding, dialogue, cooperation, exchange, and mutual comprehension. But Christian wants to collect a fee. Great, Christian, great, right?
