Weißenfels Wants the Super-Prison - Big Kids' Drawing Contest

If it hasn’t made the rounds yet: Weißenfels wants the Super-Prison.

Yes, okay, sure – there was a city council vote on June 19, 2025. 20 council members voted by name in favor of changing the zoning plan to make way for the prison construction, and only 6 voted against it.
But that’s a majority – so, naturally, all of Weißenfels wants the Super-Prison. Period! End of discussion!

Democracy? Oh right, that was back then.

The Langendorf local council had voted against it beforehand. It used to be common practice that the city council would not go against the will of a local council. But that was back then, in that old normal, in that previous democracy. We’ve been living for a few years now in this "our democracy" and in this new normal – where things are handled differently.

A Structure for Eternity

The Super-Prison is to be built in full view between the B91 (coming from Zeitz) and the Autobahn. And it will be a structure for eternity – or at least for many decades. The members of the city council who voted for the Super-Prison are all 50+, 60+, 70+ – and thus won’t have to live with the sight of it for too many more years. But you, you kids, who are now in kindergarten or primary school, you will have to see this building for the rest of your lives in your hometown.

Big Kids' Drawing Contest

So why not get involved and put your own mark on this monument of modern criminal justice?

Join the big drawing contest and create pictures of how you would design this prison facility.
  • How about making the building complex tourist-friendly, in the style of Neuschwanstein Castle?
  • Or – since we're in Burgenlandkreis – in the style of medieval castles built hundreds of years ago?
  • Or maybe you have even better ideas? A pirate ship? A spaceship? A circus tent with maximum security?

And which super villains would you like to see locked up in this modern detention facility?
  • The janitor who cut off the Wi-Fi?
  • The math teacher with the surprise tests?
  • Or maybe a few politicians who “decide for you” without asking?

Maybe you could draw some pictures of that too?

How to take part

  • Have your parents take a photo of your drawings and email them to Bürgerstimme.
  • Send the original drawings to the Mayor and the City Council of Weißenfels – as a sign that you clearly support this decision.
  • But you also want to have a say in how the building looks – with a few colored pencil strokes.

Weißenfels wants the Super-Prison. And the kids are doing the design.

If that’s not modern citizen participation – what is?
