BLIND SPOT – A Powerful Documentary About Ritual Abuse Structures in Germany

Nationwide theatrical release – May 8 in Weimar with post-film discussions in the presence of the director

“The more you listen, the more you start to see connections and consider the possibility that there are things out there which the average person on the street cannot even imagine.”

— Ellen Engel, victims' lawyer

Bad Sulza, 05/05/2025 – With “BLIND SPOT”, director Liz Wieskerstrauch delivers a powerful documentary that brings a societal taboo to the forefront: ritual child abuse within organized networks of violence. Since late April, the film has been screening nationwide in selected cinemas – each showing accompanied by the filmmaker and followed by a moderated audience discussion.

Even before the official cinema release, the film was awarded the distinction “especially valuable” by the German Film and Media Evaluation Authority (FBW).

In Weimar, the film will be shown on May 7 at 6 PM at Kino Mon Ami (Goetheplatz 11), followed by a discussion.

About the Film

“BLIND SPOT” sheds light on an uncomfortable reality: sexualized violence against children as part of organized networks. While the public often relies on the image of a mentally disturbed lone perpetrator – as it is easier to grasp and emotionally cope with – Wieskerstrauch’s film reveals that many cases are rooted in far more complex structures.

Victims of ritualized abuse share their powerful testimonies – supported by voices from psychotherapy, the judiciary, and academia. The film gives these individuals space to speak without overwhelming or retraumatizing them.

It also reveals why societal denial is so effective: the notion of systematic abuse of infants or toddlers is so horrifying that many subconsciously reject it. Yet reality tells a different story – for example, in house searches where investigators repeatedly uncover massive amounts of documented abuse. Perpetrators, backgrounds, and networks, however, often remain hidden in the shadows.

Wieskerstrauch manages to build a bridge in “BLIND SPOT” between the lived experiences of survivors and the blind spots of a society that prefers to look away.

“BLIND SPOT” is an enlightening, sensitive film that breaks the silence – and advocates for the recognition of truth.
