Image source: Museum Weißenfels The stolen memorial plaque is a culturally and historically valuable element of the so-called Schillerstein, which was donated in 1905 for the Schiller Year by the Royal Teacher Training College in Weißenfels. It features a relief profile of the poet. The monument honors Friedrich Schiller (1759–1805) and his numerous connections to the city of Weißenfels, including his correspondence with the writer Louise Brachmann and his meetings with Christian Gottfried Körner. The stone bears, among other inscriptions: “Above the highest he has soared, Closely connected with all we hold dear. Celebrate him! For what life grants a man Only half, the future will give fully.” The monument in Klemmberg Park was erected for the 100th anniversary of Schiller's death. The city of Weißenfels considers the plaque not only an important memorial but also a significant testament to both local and national cultural history. Therefore, the city of Weißenfels has announced a reward of 500 euros for any information leading to the recovery of the plaque or the capture of the perpetrators. Information can be provided to the local police station at 03443 2820. The city appeals to the citizens: Please help bring this important piece of city history back.
