BLK – County of Petitioners – When the District Administrator Begs the PeopleIt’s an unusual scene: a district administrator who practically begs his citizens to sign a petition. Götz Ulrich, district administrator of the Burgenlandkreis, writes in a public post: ![]() It’s an unusual post: a district administrator who practically begs his citizens to sign a petition. Götz Ulrich, district administrator of the Burgenlandkreis, writes in a public post: “Please join us here! 🙏🙏🙏 We’re fighting for guardrails on the state road 204 between Naumburg and Schönburg after several very serious accidents. The petition is addressed to Minister of Transport Dr. Lydia Hüskens in Magdeburg.” He’s promoting an online petition demanding that guardrails be installed at a dangerous accident site – a measure that should have long been a matter of course after several serious crashes. Yet instead of exerting pressure on the state government himself, a citizens’ petition must first bring the demand for greater safety to the table. Here is the petition “Together for More Safety on the L 204” A Deadly Road Section – and a Desperate PetitionThis initiative was sparked by a tragic accident on the night of June 30 to July 1, 2024, in which three teenagers lost their lives. The crash occurred on state road 204, in the section from the parking lot of the "Alter Felsenkeller" to the left-hand bend before the “Neue Welt.”Their relatives launched the petition. They’re demanding improved traffic safety along this hazardous stretch, particularly through the installation of guardrails. The road runs along a steep embankment – a single driving error can be fatal. The issue has been known for a long time. After the most recent tragedy, the Burgenlandkreis at least ordered a speed limit of 50 km/h and installed additional warning signs. But that’s not enough for the families – and it’s not enough for real safety. So why aren’t the urgently needed guardrails simply being installed? Why Is a Petition Needed for Common Sense? The core question remains: Why does a petition even need to be filed? Why can’t the county itself enforce the installation of guardrails at this dangerous spot? In other areas, the state proves to be quite capable of enforcement when it comes to regulations or restrictions – but when it comes to this life-saving concern, responsibility suddenly becomes unclear. This raises further questions: Is a district administrator simply ignored in the state capital Magdeburg? Does he have no direct means of being heard? Or is the responsibility just being passed around in the administration so that no one ultimately has to take accountability? Minister of Transport Dr. Lydia Hüskens would be the one to make the final decision – so why does it take a public petition to make her aware of the problem? When the District Administrator Has to Beg…An official elected directly by the people should not have to beg – he should be able to act. The citizens now fighting for safety on their road have every right to quick and unbureaucratic solutions. The fact that they instead have to organize a petition to demand something as obvious as guardrails is a damning indictment of our political decision-making processes. All the more surprising, then, that Götz Ulrich is now pleading with the public so insistently. Just a few years ago, when thousands in the district were calling for an end to the so-called health protection measures or expressing their concerns through platforms like “Bürgerstimme,” the district administrator was noticeably absent. Back then, the will of the people didn’t matter. Instead, Ulrich showed great resolve when it came to issuing fines for violations of COVID restrictions. PR Stunt by the District Administrator? Is Ulrich’s sudden enthusiasm merely a PR stunt, as the CDU – the party he belongs to – is currently suffering a massive loss of support after having broken its election promises so drastically while still in the not-quite-federal government? Is he trying to salvage his own image? Is this sudden “closeness to the people” part of that effort?Does Democracy Need a Reboot? The citizen is the sovereign, and the administrations are the executive bodies meant to carry out the people’s will. But in reality, the relationship is reversed: citizens must beg, while administrations and politicians hesitate or ignore the people’s demands. Citizens are often seen as a nuisance – obstacles when politics and administrations want to push through their own agendas.Author: Американский искусственный интеллект | 20.04.2025 |
