The State Shows No Mercy – Coercive Detention for Unpaid COVID Fines in 2025

The case of Mr. Kern highlights in a distressing way that the state continues to relentlessly pursue citizens, even years after the COVID-19 pandemic, who refused to comply with questionable measures.

Although it is now beyond doubt that the imposed measures were purely political in nature and that there was never an actual emergency, citizens are still being punished for their behavior at the time – if necessary, through coercive detention.

The Kern Case: An Unprecedented Harshness

Mr. Kern failed to pay two fines from the COVID era. His “offense”: He attended a birthday party and was later found visiting a friend. The fine office demanded €130 for the party and €80 for the private visit – totaling €210. Due to additional legal costs, the total amount rose to €468. Because Mr. Kern refused to pay, he was sentenced to seven days of coercive detention.

However, this detention is not a classic substitute punishment, but rather a devious means of pressure. The state imprisons Mr. Kern to force him to pay – a clear indication that this is not about justice, but a display of power.

The Truth Is Known – Yet the State Remains Unyielding

Official data now show that the measures to contain COVID were based on questionable political decisions and were by no means inevitable. There was never a state of emergency. Still, the authorities insist on enforcing fines from that period. They could drop these penalties at any time, but they don’t. Why? Because this is no longer about law and order, but about making an example. The state continues to pursue those who refused to comply. The message is clear: Punish one to teach hundreds.

A State That Doesn’t Forget Its Citizens – In the Worst Way

Many people believe that COVID is “over.” But for those affected, like Mr. Kern, the opposite is true. The state neither forgets nor forgives. While those responsible for the excessive measures have gone unpunished, ordinary citizens are still forced to pay for actions that are now widely acknowledged as overreactions.

Mr. Kern’s case is not an isolated one, but rather an alarming sign that the state is enforcing its power ruthlessly – even where there is no longer any moral or legal basis. The state remains merciless.
