THE DISCRIMINATOR and the Anti-Democratic Faction – Part 2

Today, live in the Weißenfels City Council, the new masterpiece "The Discriminator and the Anti-Democratic Faction – Part 2" was performed

As previously reported, there is an ongoing legal dispute between the chairman of the Weißenfels city council and me. My grievous offense was doing exactly what media and press representatives are supposed to do in this so-called "our" democracy: bringing transparency to political bodies. And since we no longer live in 1850, the best way to transparently show what happens in the public parts of a city council meeting is to capture it live on video – also known as moving images.

But in the Weißenfels city council, this is not desired.

On December 12, 2024, the city council meeting started at 4 PM. The council members were supposed to gather afterward for a communal feast, paid for by the city’s coffers.

I arrived about 20 minutes before the meeting started in the hall of this building. The mayor and the chairman of the city council were already present. I set up my cameras at the spot reserved for press and media representatives. That is pretty much the only place where a video recording can be reasonably made.

The mayor greeted me, and the council members gradually arrived. One or two minutes before 4 PM, the chairman of the city council, Ekkart Günther, approached me and introduced himself again. I don’t know why, since he had already sent a lawyer to prevent the video recording of the city council meeting on November 7, 2024, from being available online. I know what he looks like. He knows what I look like. Hmmm...?!

He had his adjutant with him and explained that I was allowed to film, but not from this spot. I had to move to the spectator area one floor up. I asked why and demanded a factual explanation. The answer was that, as chairman, he could decide from where filming was permitted. I asked again why and pointed out that the reporter from the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung was staying right here. To me, this was discrimination and unequal treatment. Neither of them cared. Filming was apparently something else. No clear explanation was given.

What’s interesting is that Günther’s lawyer had told the court that video and audio recordings were not allowed. Now the chairman himself says they are allowed. A nice statement for the upcoming oral hearing. I’m looking forward to it.

Both insisted that I had not cut out those CDU, SPD, and Horst Ziegler council members – the so-called “anti-democratic faction” – from the November 7, 2024 recording. I explained that no “legitimate individual case” had been made and thus no proper justification given. Also, I had filed an objection to the court order. “The Discriminator” Ekkart Günther and his adjutant said no justification was necessary and that we simply had different legal opinions. They declared, “we” have now moved forward a bit. Filming must be done from the spectator area. That’s where the cameras have to be. I could come back down and take notes like the representative from the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung.

By now, it was already past 4 PM. The role of a city council chairman is actually to ensure the smooth running of the meeting. However, he himself had caused the delay. Great, isn’t it? Why didn’t he come 15 minutes earlier? I interpret this as deliberate and strategic.

Well, I said I needed a few minutes to carry the two cameras upstairs. “The Discriminator” said I would have 5 minutes for that. Of course, I didn’t get them. Why would I?! He opened the meeting before I was ready.

The spectator area one floor up is very cramped. There is no reasonable spot to get all council members in frame. The hall’s lighting makes filming difficult to impossible. The acoustics up there are a disaster. It’s barely possible to hear anything from the loudspeakers on the left and right. One can hardly understand what is being said in the city council.

This fits perfectly into the pattern of what “The Discriminator” apparently wants to enforce – opacity. The citizens obviously are not supposed to hear, understand, or find out what is being said in the city council.

After opening the meeting, he again asked the city council members who did not want to be filmed and whose speeches should not be heard. Once again, the entire CDU faction and Mr. Horst Ziegler raised their hands. Even Jörg Riemer, head of the Burgenlandkreis vocational school, whose filming was not an issue at the district council meeting on Monday, wanted to remain unrecognized and unheard in the Weißenfels city council – at least from the public’s perspective. A wonderful role model for vocational students in democracy and transparency, isn’t it? I’m always amazed by such an understanding of democracy. Wink-smiley!

And “The Discriminator” himself doesn’t want to be filmed or heard either. He runs the city council meeting, moderates it, carries out the votes, but we are not supposed to see or hear him on video. What is satire allowed to do?

The video will follow shortly. Let’s see what’s left then. But I already have an idea how to make this second part of “The Discriminator and the Anti-Democratic Faction” entertaining.

I can only chuckle about people who behave like this, take it with humor, and regard it as real-life satire.

You couldn’t make it clearer that these city council members have absolutely nothing to do with democracy. No other city council puts on such a spectacle.

It will soon be time again for citizens on the regional level to cast their votes. A federal election is scheduled for February 2025. I know for sure that my votes will definitely not go to the parties that have outed themselves as anti-democrats in the city council in this way.
