Mega Success! Government Creates Special Leisure Time for Numerous Employees in Leuna

Hallelujah, let the champagne corks pop! Once again, the outstanding energy and economic policies of our wise leaders have paid off brilliantly.

In Leuna, this proud symbol of Central German industry, more than 400 people will soon be redirected toward leisure activities. No, this does not mean job losses or the destruction of jobs — it means special leisure time! Analogous to the special fund, that ingenious euphemism for mountains of debt that future generations will have to pay off. Except that here, nothing is being invested; people are simply being released from employment.

Jobs? Gone. Livelihood? Finished. In return, unlimited time for the things that really matter: museums, historic buildings, newly emerging lakes, and the relaxed life on basic income support.

Taxpayers Pay – Millions for the Dismantling, Once Again!

The facts, however dry and unpleasant they may be: The local court has opened insolvency proceedings against Leuna Polyamid GmbH. The search for investors has failed. The final products are rolling out of the plant these days; after that, the facility will be shut down, emptied, and cleaned. Around 440 employees will receive their notices of termination in October; their employment will end at the end of January 2027. Until then, they can still help with the dismantling — paid out of the insolvency estate, of course. However, that was not even enough to cover the complete shutdown and dismantling. That is why the state of Saxony-Anhalt is taking responsibility for hazard prevention. Previously, nearly €80 million in taxpayers' money had already been poured into emergency operations after the predecessor, Domo Caproleuna, went bankrupt. Now, further millions are looming — estimates put the figure at up to €30 million. The taxpayer pays. As always.

Energy Policy as a Job Killer... Uh... Leisure Creator: China Laughs, Leuna Weeps – CDU, SPD and FDP Deliver

And why is all this happening? Sharply rising energy and raw-material costs, exacerbated by the geopolitical turmoil desired by the leaders so many people adore (hello, wars in Ukraine and Iran), demands for advance payment, and relentless price pressure from China. Mass-produced goods that were manufactured here can no longer compete. The chemical industry is groaning under the burden of policies that drive energy prices to dizzying heights, sacrifice security of supply on the altar of transformation, and at the same time pretend that everything is under control. Who is responsible for this? The previous state government made up of the CDU, SPD and FDP — the so-called “Germany Coalition” that ran the show under the (by now ousted) CDU Minister-President Sven Schulze and previously under Reiner Haseloff. And, of course, the federal political line that these parties supported for years or at least failed to consistently oppose. “Transformation” and “structural change” — those sacred words with which the dismantling of industry and jobs is sold as progress.

Domo Rescue as a Top Priority – and the Bankruptcy News Came on the Monday After the Election

The probably soon-to-be-former, and currently still serving, CDU Minister-President (Sven Schulze, successor to Reiner Haseloff) had explicitly declared the rescue of Domo/Leuna Polyamid a top priority. Haseloff himself had publicly defended the chemical industry and emphasized that it must not be allowed to be destroyed. Millions flowed in, emergency operations were ordered, and a holding company was established — all under the banner of a top-priority government project. Yet the news of the final failure of the investor search and the looming shutdown followed promptly on the Monday after the state election on September 6, 2026. Timing is everything: Let people vote first, then deliver the bitter reality afterward. The AfD had clearly won, the CDU collapsed — and the top-priority government disaster was there in black and white for everyone to see.

Modern Thinking Instead of Jobs: Welcome to Leisure Hell!

Anyone who still naively believed that the goal of this entire undertaking was to create new, future-proof jobs should open their eyes. Leisure activities are the real objective. You can see this immediately by visiting the Facebook profile “Structural Change Saxony-Anhalt” run by the State Chancellery and the Ministry of Culture, staff unit “Structural Change in the Central German Mining District.” Among other things, they have commissioned “Out and About with the Guys” (whether for a fee or on a voluntary basis, who knows). And what are the topics? Tourist attractions, leisure opportunities, cultural sites, vitality centers with swimming lessons, wellness, and events at which funding is handed out.

Industrial jobs? Nowhere to be found. Hashtags such as #moderndenken proudly adorn the whole thing. Modern thinking, indeed: Anyone who loses their job can finally enjoy nature, go swimming, go sightseeing, and visit museums without the pressure of deadlines. An opportunity others do not have! Life on basic income support doesn't have to be bad. You just need the right mindset. People are not unemployed; they are simply free from work! The people are enriched with leisure time.

And let's be honest: Anyone who is green at heart and afraid of dying from heat once temperatures reach 23 degrees Celsius knows that this prosperity in Germany produces far too large a CO₂ footprint. Germany is also still far too far away from the climate-neutrality targets set by the leaders so many people adore. More major efforts are therefore needed to bring even more people into the realm of leisure.

What is still needed, however, are appealing names for the employment agency, the job center, and the social welfare office. Something that positively reflects the spirit of leisure.

Millions for Job Destruction... Uh... for Bringing People into Leisure

The fact that politicians genuinely care about this outcome is demonstrated by their refusal to deviate from the path they have chosen. Millions and millions in taxpayers' money are flowing into the dismantling of jobs. Highly paid employees in the ministries are working on creating new laws to bring many hundreds of thousands of people per year into leisure — overseen by the CDU, SPD and FDP, who came up with the concept of structural change and supported the energy policies for years.

Create new jobs? Politics can't do that anyway. That is left to the market — the very same market that has been successfully wrecked with energy prices, bureaucracy, and ideological directives. Structural change in the Central German Mining District is producing lakes, cultural attractions, and “appeal,” while industry quietly dies. Leuna is merely the latest and particularly vivid example.

Bravo, Government – More Special Leisure Time for Everyone!

So let us rejoice! The previous CDU-led coalition with the SPD and FDP has delivered. Plenty of special leisure time for hundreds of people. And if even more plants follow soon because energy policy remains this brilliant — all the better. Then even more people can enjoy the blessings of structural change: endless leisure time, paid for by fewer and fewer taxpayers. But hey: Modern thinking means celebrating that as a success.
