“Kid Gloves” for Eric Stehr (The Left) or a Review of His Commitment to the Constitution?

The article featuring Eric Stehr’s (The Left) posts from the pandemic years triggered strong reactions on Facebook.

The comment function under the post in the “Die Weißenfelser aktuell” group was temporarily disabled because some people found it difficult to keep their composure. Positive comments were the absolute exception.

Reactions and Accusations on Social Media

In the Facebook group “Demokraten Zeitz,” someone using the fake profile “Daike Tegeler” — in one photo the “lady” has brown eyes, in another blue eyes — came to Eric Stehr’s defense and argued that the article was a witch hunt against Eric Stehr. The person also claimed that I would have been an ideal candidate as an IM (unofficial collaborator) in East Germany or might even have received letters of appreciation during the Nazi era. “Daike Tegeler,” however, had absolutely nothing to say about Eric Stehr’s own statements.

The article, however, simply presents the posts that Eric Stehr himself published during the pandemic years. In other words, no intelligence operations were required by the collector and author of the article (which was not me).

Comparison with Current Debates About Loyalty to the Constitution

Over the past days and weeks, we have seen AfD members barred from standing for election as district administrators. The case of Martin Sichert is a particularly prominent example. The district election committee in Friesland rejected the candidacy of AfD Bundestag member Martin Sichert for the July 2026 district administrator election. The stated reason was allegedly “well-founded doubts” about his commitment to the constitution, based on an assessment by the Ministry of the Interior citing his party affiliation, social media posts, and controversial statements.

More recently, an attempt was made to launch a campaign against the AfD’s lead candidate, Ulrich Siegmund, over uncertainties regarding one of his certificates. Naturally, confirmed plagiarism involving doctoral dissertations by politicians from other parties is conveniently left out of such discussions.

The Question of Eric Stehr’s Commitment to the Constitution

But let us return to the subject of constitutional loyalty. What about Eric Stehr’s own commitment to the constitution? He posed behind shields bearing the slogan “Kill Nazis.” Yes, this can be interpreted in different ways, but it can also quite reasonably be understood in a very specific sense—as a call to murder.

For Eric Stehr, “Nazis” appear to be an all-encompassing label for a very large group of people—including wheelchair users. He reiterated this publicly only recently during the AfD Simson motorcycle ride.

Eric Stehr also posted that demonstrators protesting the COVID-19 measures should be shot in order to get rid of the “problem.” He referred to critics of the measures as “Covidiots.”

Anyone who has studied the unredacted RKI Files, numerous other documents, and the statements of former Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn will likely conclude that the real “Covidiots” were those who believed the pandemic narrative (or still do) and, like Eric Stehr, enthusiastically volunteered to serve as test subjects for the so-called vaccines. It is worth recalling that in December 2025, former Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn stated that vaccine research had never aimed to prevent transmission and that these so-called vaccines are still being tested on the market—that is, on people.

Transparency and Political Responsibility

On his website (https://ericstehr.de/), Eric Stehr writes: “I am fighting alongside you for cohesion in our region and for opportunities, respect, and a good future for everyone.”

Who exactly is included in “everyone”? Does that also include those whom he broadly labels as Nazis or Covidiots—those whom, in his view, should have been shot?

When one compares his statements with those of Martin Sichert, who has been broadly accused of lacking commitment to the constitution, the question of Eric Stehr’s own constitutional loyalty inevitably arises.

Apparently, however, the responsible election committee either did not conduct such a review or chose to gracefully overlook Eric Stehr’s statements.

Whether The Left has done itself a favor by nominating Eric Stehr is something everyone can decide for themselves. A party that constantly champions tolerance and diversity should perhaps take a closer look when selecting its candidates.

No “Kid Gloves” for Political Candidates

Eric Stehr wants to be elected to the Saxony-Anhalt state parliament in order to help shape the future of the state. He has been an adult for many years (born in 2001) and is therefore undoubtedly fully responsible for his posts. In my view, that rules out any form of “kid gloves” treatment and instead makes it all the more necessary to examine his statements critically.

Had an AfD member published similar remarks, the media would almost certainly have torn that person apart and demanded their social ostracism. In Eric Stehr’s case, however, this apparently does not seem to be considered particularly problematic.

He also writes on his website: “Transparency toward the citizens is not an obligation for me, but a matter of course.”

Quite a few people would certainly be interested in learning what his relationship with ANTIFA actually is, given that the group has shown anything but tolerance toward people with differing opinions and rejects democratic principles—including commitment to the constitution—whenever it considers doing so justified.

Perhaps Eric Stehr will provide transparency on this point as well—ideally before the state election.
