Is the Attempted Solution in Iran the Solution for Germany?People often think that world politics, or politics in general, is not everyone’s cup of tea. Yet every now and then one is surprisingly reminded that such topics also interest those from whom one would not have expected it at all. You could witness quite an astonishing conversation if you only looked closely enough.
This may sound a bit strange, but the neighbor’s dwarf rabbit three streets over was having a dialogue with his buddy, the guinea pig, that really makes your ears flap. Dwarf Rabbit: “Hey buddy, how does this thing with international law work?” Guinea Pig: “International law? I had a few pages of that yesterday, as fiber after my salad. I can tell you, it’s pretty dry.” Dwarf Rabbit: “There are those guys, Trump and Netanyahu, who for a few weeks now have been attacking Iran and trying to bomb the government out of power there.” Guinea Pig: “You mean assassinate.” Dwarf Rabbit: “Yesterday in that action movie they used the word ‘eliminate.’” Guinea Pig: “You watch too many action movies.” Dwarf Rabbit: “Well, but what does international law actually say about that? A country isn’t really allowed to just attack another country militarily, let alone assassinate its government.” Guinea Pig: “I hadn’t read those pages of international law beforehand. I was only interested in the fiber.” Dwarf Rabbit: “On TV the former Federal President, Joachim Gauck, of this best Germany that has ever existed, apparently said that the Iranians want regime change because they don’t like the Iranian government. Something like half of the Iranians, or so. And that’s why Gauck thinks it’s okay that Trump and Netanyahu assassinate members of the Iranian government—and a few thousand civilians on top of that. That apparently seems to be compatible with international law. Are Trump and Netanyahu war criminals? Just asking purely hypochondrically.” Guinea Pig: “They’re not the ones flying the bombers and fighter jets themselves, and they’re not the ones pressing the buttons either.” Dwarf Rabbit: “So the assassinating is okay then?” Guinea Pig: “Where there’s no plaintiff, there’s no judge. If the Iranian people don’t complain and if the politicians in Germany and Europe aren’t bothered by it, then the assassinations and such a regime change with bombs and rockets apparently are acceptable.” Dwarf Rabbit: “Because the Iranian people—well, half of them or so—no longer want this government?!” Guinea Pig: “Something like that.” Dwarf Rabbit: “According to a poll, only 29 percent of the population in Germany are satisfied with Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Sixty-seven percent are dissatisfied. With the government’s performance, apparently even 79 percent of the population are dissatisfied. So how should one react to that then? Just asking purely pyroclastically.” Guinea Pig: “Well, you see, it’s kind of similar to Iran. The people can’t solve it themselves.” Dwarf Rabbit: “So the German population would have to ask other states whether they could solve it? Whether there might be one or several heads of government somewhere who would want to solve it?” Guinea Pig: “You’re saying that Putin or Xi or someone like that should react? Like Trump and Netanyahu in Iran?” Dwarf Rabbit: “I didn’t say anything, I only asked. Because of the low approval for the government in Germany and because it apparently complies with international law when the population is dissatisfied with the government.” Guinea Pig: “Are you still eating your carrot?” Dwarf Rabbit: “No, you can have it, I still have lettuce.” Author: AI-Translation - Carlos Columnos | |
