Neither ox nor donkey can stop structural change in its tracks!

There is fantastic news to report. It is election campaign season and thus funding season. And so the Burgenland district has been blessed with 124.4 million euros.

Yes, dear fellow human beings. Your money, which you still have to earn first, is supposed to be invested. And specifically in a beautiful, new industrial and commercial area. In short: yuck! Uh… IKIG! The Intermunicipal Industrial and Commercial Area.

The Burgenland district announced the joyful news, among other places, on Facebook. And the mayors of the cities participating in the special-purpose association did the same. Sven Schulze (CDU minister-president, can’t get a custom license plate in Germany) made his way to Zorbau to take a few cheerful photos together with members of the state parliament and to shower himself with praise. Great, right? And they look happy. That is understandable as well, since it isn’t their money.

Yes, bankruptcies in Germany have increased massively. Hundreds of thousands of jobs have been destroyed in recent years due to political decisions. And that will probably continue, because that is what the politicians want.

Yes, the economic situation is not at all on the path to improvement. Energy prices are simply too high because the leaders beloved by many want it that way. Energy simply has to be expensive so that energy is saved. Yes, that’s why many companies are relocating their production abroad. But that by no means means that the politicians don’t want to squander the taxes that have not yet been collected – malicious tongues would say: squeezed out of the people – on such castles in the air.

Structural change was initiated by the leaders beloved by many in order to put a stop to climate change. Because it is still necessary to reduce these 0.2 molecules of the trace gas CO₂ of German origin within one million air molecules to zero. After all, these 0.2 CO₂ molecules are scientifically claimed to be partly responsible for droughts and crop failures – that is, more than usual, as it is claimed. And that is why someone came up with the idea of withdrawing valuable farmland from agriculture and turning it into an industrial and commercial area. Clever, right? Who needs food when you can have industrial wastelands and investment ruins instead, right?

Malicious farmers would argue why the post-mining landscape of open-pit mines isn’t being turned into such an industrial area. After all, the soil there has already been massively churned up and nature destroyed. Agriculture will not be possible there anytime soon. In addition, new jobs would then arise exactly where jobs are currently being destroyed due to political will – that is, insofar as companies would actually want to settle there. But those are just malicious farmers who dare to think logically. After all, we all know that when decisions are made by the politicians beloved by many, logic is rarely involved. The money is taken from the citizen and simply has to be blasted out so that the politicians beloved by many can show up at such photo opportunities. Surely everyone should understand the importance of that, right?

And now we arrive at the Burgenland district’s post. It says: “This is a milestone for structural change in the Burgenland district, as the new industrial area is a lighthouse project.” That really warms the heart, doesn’t it? A lighthouse, hundreds of kilometers away from the sea and from prospects of economic success. Simply wonderful, right!

And it continues: “It creates the foundation for a strong long-term economic development of our region.” What a brilliant phrase sprang from the imagination of the author. Yes, okay, the population in the Burgenland district has been shrinking since reunification. In 1990 there were a good 244,000 inhabitants, and now there are only about 173,000. A nice, steady downward trend that the politicians beloved by many have not been able to stop – despite all the wonderful measures. But now, well soon, well shortly, well once the IKIG gets going, things will turn upward again. Yes, yes, absolutely for sure.

Yes, okay, the many industrial and commercial areas that have been built over the past 35 years have not stopped the downward trend either. But with the IKIG it will work. Everything before that was just child’s play. With the IKIG the tide will be turned – despite Germany-wide deindustrialization. We just have to believe in it very firmly, like the politicians beloved by many. After all, faith is known to move mountains, and believing politicians burn through all of our taxpayers’ money.

Malicious tongues would say that if the Burgenland district were a booming region, all remaining free spaces in the many commercial and industrial areas in the district and the surrounding area would have long since been fully occupied. But those are just malicious tongues, complainers, grumblers who simply lack faith and orient themselves far too much toward reality.

Besides, jobs have already been created. The employees of the special-purpose association who will deal with planning, planning changes, planning revisions, and the discarding of plans. So everything very productive and sustainable.
